A pet license from Regional Animal Services of King County (RASKC) offers the following benefits:
- Lost pets are reunited quickly If someone finds your pet, they can call the phone number on the license tag 24/7 to get your number and reunite you with your pet.
- Free ride home By wearing the tag, your pet gets a free ride home the first time it is found. An Animal Control Officer will attempt to deliver your pet home to you immediately, skipping a trip to the animal shelter.
- Longer holding period Impounded unlicensed pets have a 72-hour stray hold, but licensed pets are held at least 5 days after phone contact or two weeks after a mailed notice before they are placed for adoption.
- Vacation Pet Alert Free registration of alternate pet care information while you are away.
- Microchip record Provide us with your microchip number when you license or by calling 206.296.2712 and we will add it to your license record to assist us in identifying your pet.
- Free end-of-life services. When the time comes, you can bring your licensed pet to the RASKC Animal Shelter in Kent, and we will humanely euthanize at no additional cost to you.
LICENSE FEES SUPPORT THE TOWN OF YARROW POINT: When you purchase a pet license the funds go to the Town of Yarrow Point to help pay for RASKC animal services in the community.
What does the Pet License Fee support? A license not only protects your pet should it get lost, but also helps thousands of other pets in the community who are stray, abandoned or surrendered. You can feel good knowing that license fees support rescue, foster, adoption, and medical care for domesticated animals. License fees also provide animal control enforcement services 7 days a week to your community and help fund efforts to bring those who abuse animals to justice through our animal cruelty investigations program.
Pet licensing is required in King County. KC ordinance 11.04.030, and associated city municipal codes, require all dogs and cats to be licensed annually. By licensing your pet, you can avoid a potential fine of up to $250 for noncompliance.
